Early
life and family
Jaya is the eldest daughter of Late Md. A.S.
Maswood & Mrs. Rehana Maswood. Her father was a freedom fighter during the Bangladesh
war of liberation in 1971.
Interested in singing and dancing, she also took
classes in music (and ran a music school) and acquired a diploma in the Bengali
music genre Rabindra Sangeet. She did
her post-graduation studies from Eden University College, Dhaka.
Jaya once wanted to become a carpenter because as
a child she was enthralled by their craftsmanship, but her passion for art,
music and acting took her into the world of screens. She first came to
telemedia when she performed in the teledrama Panchami. While working on
the drama she met one of the leading actors Golam Mustafa.
Mustafa asked her to stay in media and insisted that she would do better if she
stays. In the meantime she modeled in a calendar which caught the eye of Afzal
Hossain. They offered her work on a promotional advertisement of a soft drink
and she again had to convince her father for that. Afterwards she left modeling
and continued with her studies.
During that time she used to go the office of Bhorer
Kagoj, a national daily of that time, rekindling her interest in
working in the media. After a brief stint at a children's school she returned
to modeling. There she met Faisal,[clarification needed]
who himself was a famous model, and they fell in love. Soon they were married,
which helped Jaya to work more freely and attentively in media. Then she worked
in Giashuddin Selim’s Shongshoy and it took her into the spotlight.
According to her, in the past Faisal inspired her a lot after her marriage.
At the beginning of her career, Jaya's father was
strictly against her ingress into the show business. Instead, he wanted her to
work in a famous firm, holding a major post. However, after seeing her rapid
success, he began to encourage her. He was particularly carried away by her
performance in Guerrilla.
Career
Jaya Ahsan started her career as a model in the
late 1990's in Bangladesh. Her first appearance was in a television commercial
for ‘Coca-Cola’ in 1996. Soon after, she caught the attention of directors
everywhere, setting off her career in television dramas, serials and moving to
films.
She has 15+ years of various acting roles in
films and TV shows, passionate about acting and strong drive to succeed, with
inherent talent to perform different types of character roles, which recognized
her as a versatile actor.

Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy,

debuted as a playback singer, with the track “Tomer Khola Hawa”. She also acted
in Firey Esho Behula (2010). Though it was a big budget movie, it was
not a commercial success. In 2010-2011 she worked in Nasiruddin Yousuff’s

theatres across Bangladesh. Guerrilla is an adaptation of the Syed
